So, I survived raising the dead. What else could possibly happen?

Jinx just wants to enjoy the rest of her summer. Is that too much to ask? In Briar Hollow the answer would be, “Yes!” Just as she’s poised to tell her friends she’s a witch, secrets start popping up all over the place. Between the reappearance of old foes and the revelation of hidden realms, Jinx not only doesn’t get her peaceful summer, her whole world is about to be turned upside down — again.

Actually give this 3.5 stars. Loved the first two books - which is why I pre-ordered this one. And while this is an enjoyable read, I had a real problem with the omniscient Myrtle suddenly drawing a major blank when clearly dark magic items were residing inside her very premises. Really? Either she is or isn't this ancient, all-powerful force. Please, ladies, make up your mind. She knew when Brenna had been released from her captivity in Book 2, but doesn't notice when an evil force is zipping around inside the store? Ditto with not being able to pick up on her powers. Why not? She could in the previous book, but suddenly this source of knowledge is drawing a blank? And blightly dismissing a formidable threat that the good guys have been battling throughout the ages, seemed out of character - not only for Myrtle, but all the other "experienced" members of the cast.
Maybe it wouldn't have bothered me as much, if this was the first book in the series that I'd picked up. But for someone who is following your series, these kind of inconsistencies do matter. And they drove me crazy, the entire time I was reading this book.
That said, this was still an enjoyable read - mostly because the characters themselves are likeable. And I will continue with the series. I just hope in the next book, the characters are a bit more in keeping with the background history they were initially given.

Witch at Last A Jinx Hamilton Mystery Book 3 eBook Juliette Harper Reviews

Jinx and Tori are 30-ish and still sound like 18 yr. olds at times. The deluge of new characters in the third book is too much. Ghosts who can materialize, Pulling the mothers in at the last minute seems like a device rather than a logical plot development.
Like the other stories in this series, this one is highly entertaining, exciting and has a wealth of rich background that more fully develops the characters. This is not a throw-away witch series; it is a rich story reminiscent of Deborah Harkness' "Book of Life" trilogy, one of my all time favorites. I'm looking forward to the next Juliette Harper story in this series.
Perhaps the only flaw, if it is indeed one, is that to truly enjoy this book, it should be read in sequence with the others. Not the worst thing, since that also applies to LOTR. As with that series also, each of the characters gets deeper and more real as the story progresses. Book 4 is calling me, I must go now.
I love the way the author shifts POV & uses flashbacks to weave the story. And while this is the third book in the series, the author spends some time at the beginning summarizing & catching the reader up. I would recommend that you read the other two books first, though, as they are wonderful tales. I admire the way Jinx & Tori deal with all the changes that are happening in their lives. I especially enjoyed their time in The Valley. Loved the dragonlets! The ending sets us up for the girls' next adventure. Hopefully I won't have to wait too long!
I have read 4 books in this series now. They have a good story line but too much detail on the history. i got bored reading about the history. If you like that kind of detail you will like these books I have taken a break from reading the rest in the series, which I hate, I have bought all of them, but I am not sure I will go back and read the rest.
The reader is flooded with multiple characters who enter the story line for the first time. This book lacks the clarity of the previous ones and, while it expands, future story lines it is like a buffet where you eat too much. Not only are there a multitude of characters everything is too perfect and not enough time is spent on each new player. I am sure that will come latter. The happy ending forced into a few pages is a little contrived. The writer always references pop culture and in keeping with these references , this book should be entitles “Don’t Worry Be Happy.”
"Witch at Last A Jinx Hamilton Mystery Book 3" by Juliette Harper is the latest book in the "The Jinx Hamilton Mysteries" series. Jinx's eyes are opened to many different situations that have been kept from her up to this point. It's time for her and her best friend Tori to talk to their mother's about their witchy background. Along with finding out the truth about Chase and the secrets about her basement all in one day. It's a lot for a person to handle. Overall, I enjoyed this novel. Yes, there was a lot of information that was just told to Jinx at the beginning of the novel, but to find a way to "show not tell" all of that would have taken a whole additional novel. The rest of the novel continues to move the over arching plot line of the series forward. Jinx learns a lot about who she can become along with how each person in her life has a role to play.
